Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, spoke this morning with Dr. Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan.

The High Representative and the President agreed on the next steps in preparing for the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan (4-5 October 2016), including the outreach to donors and economic cooperation.

They also discussed the Afghan peace talks and the security situation and agreed to cooperate further in this regard.

HR/VP Mogherini and Afghan President Ghani finally agreed on the organisation of a high-level dialogue on migration and discussed electoral reform in Afghanistan.
